  • The show is on the BBC at the moment. Just seen episode 3 of 6. Creepy and psychological thriller with a large gothic overtone in a contemporary setting, with a dash of child abduction/Satanism thrown in.
    Worth a watch.
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ.
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit.
Shall lure it back to cancal half a line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
  • Sting, Cheb Mami - Desert Rose

  • I'm not a fan of Sting, but this is a beautiful song; kinda marred by Cheb Mami's horrific crime though.
If I were dead, could I do this?
  • I wasn't paying attention.  I thought Cheb was the woman singing...
  • He's a man. He sings a style of Algerian folk music called rai. "Cheb" is I guess what you'd call a title for rai singers.
If I were dead, could I do this?
  • I used to have a desert rose. It was beautiful when I brought it home, but I was never able to get it to bloom afterwards. It died one winter.
If I were dead, could I do this?
  • Winter! Where you live! (Snigger).

  • In a bit of a Motown mood

It's abominably cold at the moment.

How cold does it get? Always been a curious thing to me that a desert can be scorchingly hot during the day, yet bitterly cold at night. My Dad was in North Africa when in the army and he said the same thing, oh, and also always check your boots for scorpions before you put them on. Wise words I follow to this day!

  • All this week, the temps have been in the 30s at night. I think we're supposed to sink to 33 this morning. Brrrrr!
If I were dead, could I do this?
  • And the days have been chilly and grey.
If I were dead, could I do this?
  • So, our zero centigrade is your 32 Farenheit. So you are bumping along around zero. How cold has it got there?
Here, in the bosom of North East Essex, cold would be -2 Cent. I think the coldest we have seen it here is -8 Cent, poss -10 overnight. Rarely snows as we are on a peninsula but, when it does, it can get deep. Where we live is around an old Hospital and I remember in '82 the snow landed so deep here that it completely covered the cars and a friend of mine who worked at this hospital had to abandon his car on the main road and walk the last 3 miles in and said, at one point, he realised he was standing on the top of a car.
That year, the army had to fly two massive generators into the Hospital as the mains power was out for about a week.
Much like Costa Rica since the Hurricane Donald !
