  • Goldfrapp might be a great band.... but Stardust -'Music Sounds Better With You' wins hooves down, "I feel right, ooooh baby"

  • The grand daddy of pretty much all ambient techno albums. Obviously others had pioneered the ambient genre before that (Eno et al) but this for me was the first twittering sequencer bliss-out to pre-empt, for example, the entrie Orb catalogue.

Steve Hillage - "Rainbow Dome Musick" (1979)

Two tracks. 45 minutes. Glorious place to get lost in on a very miserable grey day.

Considering it was 1979 I love the kit they were already using:-

Steve Hillage – lead guitar, electric guitar, glissando guitar, Fender Rhodes, ARP synthesizer, Moog synthesizer.
Miquette Giraudy – double sequencer, Fender Rhodes, ARP Omni, Tibetan bells.
    Rupert Atwill – Eventide harmoniser.

I take the needle off the Technics and put it in my vein
  • Dance! Industrial! Political statements! A dog!

It could only be the trailer for the new Laibach album, "Spectre"

  • Been watching Live at Shepherds Bush Empire and always wondered who the guy with the beard was.

Turns out he wrote great old single in his old band the Korgi's.

Korgi's - Everybody gotta learn sometime.

  • I take the needle off the Technics and put it in my vein
  • Ok, It's something that has been bothering me since the new forum started.
Can we please split this up in two threads?

    1. "What are you listening to now"
    2. "Watch this song I like on youtube please"

I'm probably alone on this one, but I just thought I'd let you all know.

"I think it is our job to dream"
  • I see what you mean, Dreeke, but the thing that makes it awkward is that a lot of the time the Youtube video is how/what people are listening to and it's handy to get a quick way to join them........

.....BUT..........some of the time it may indeed just be as you say.

So even if we split them we'll still have plenty of YT vids in this thread anyway AND another thread full of them too.

    No idea what's better/worse in the long run {shrugs}

  • It doesn't sound very appealing to me, but each to his own I guess.

I've just been listening to the Maida Vale session, thanks @Sartori

    My imagination
    Can't cross the borderline
  • mmm... i agree. When there are loads it crashes my i-phone and it really slows down the thread and takes up loads of room.

BUT on the plus side it lets you click straight into hearing what people are listening to if you so desire (audio would be enough but youtube is the easiest and most comprehensive system to use).

So for me it's kind of the fault of the thread/forum for putting a preview in. Can it be set so if you post a link there is no preview? Or can we amend the link when we paste it in so we get no previews?

I like having a direct link to the song so you can check it out. If not it's just words like a facebook post saying you doing the washing up, i.e. pretty meaningless if you have never heard of the artist.

  • I think there might well be a way to post a URL to the YouTube clip where it doesn't expand & embed the actual thing. Let me have a play around as I know I've done it by accident before.

That would indeed be the ideal answer, tattmeister, as you'd have an uncluttered page AND a quick listening link if wanted. Good thinking there.

    Off to have a play......

  • Dreeke, when you say it is "Watch this song I like on youtube please", surely the part about sharing the experience (be it on youtube or not) is what the thread is about. "Here is what i am listening to, i think you may like to hear it as well". If not why are you sharing it on a forum?

I suppose the question is what you see the purpose of the "What are you listening to?" thread.
  • Yes, was going to suggest people use links rather than embedded Youtube clips. Can you not just type in a bit of text, highlight it, click on the 'link' icon, and then paste the Youtube URL into the popup?
