  • I don't know much about "High Tea", but "dinner" over here can mean either midday meal or evening meal. Very confusing!

Yah, that's true in the U.S., as well.  From one source, High Tea seemed to be related to the evening meal.

Whew!  Thanks for saving me from a bingo-bango!
  • Can someone clarify "High Tea" for me?  There seems to be some confusion.  The surprising but, seemly, accurate defintion seems to be "dinner" (as long as you have tea with it!).

You'll need to go back to 1930 and ask a posh person.

  • Actually, High Tea was supposedly used by the working class.
  • Ask some pretentious upper-middle class reachers from Long Island.
If I were dead, could I do this?

    Really?

I came from a working class family, and never heard any of them speak of "high tea".  We called our evening meal "tea" without any suggestion that it might be "high".

Its an anachronism that`s only used in pretentious/posh hotels for naive tourists who think the UK is stuck in the 1930`s with whippets , flat caps and cups of tea - haven`t they seen Geordie Shore ffs ?

  • I think a few more people like Garbage than Liverpool but no one is perhaps as enthusiastic as Jozzy81 is towards them. I've said elsewhere I quite like Garbage, and I have affection for Version 2 it would probably be in my top 200 albums I guess ;)
