    so having heard AG say about one of the new tracks 'annabel' been based on a book she's read i started thinking about other songs i know that i've read the book for they're based on.

    the first one that sprung to mind was wuthering heights, and then also cloudbusting; i have read 'the book of dreams' which that is taken from. that one especially i remember reading it and all the way through there were bits where i would think 'that was in the song', i hummed my way through the whole book.
    we studied wuthering heights ay A level and every lesson was started with a quick chorus of Kates ditty.

    Tonnes and tonnes I could think of, but I'll start with David Bowie paying homage to Orwell's masterpiece on the album Diamond Dogs with 1984/We are The Dead/Big Brother.

    no its by peter reich, its a sort of auto-biography/biography about his dad.

     I was referring to David Bowie paying homage to George Orwell's 1984 on the Diamond Dogs album. I'm a huge fan of Orwell's work personally.

    Yeah, there's a Hazel O' Connor song 'Animal Farm', it's quite a nice little number, but not quite in the league of Bowie.

    I got a book by Orwell recently I haven't got round to reading, I am terrible like that to be honest, it's called
    'Some thoughts on the common toad'. Apart from the obvious Orwell I remember being blown away by one novel 'coming up for air' was very deep stuff, kind of anticipating the oncoming war, written I think 1938, very, very good as I recall, would read again some day.
